Naga Galho Recipe – Khichdi from Nagaland

Naga Galho Recipe is a soupy concoction similar to khichdi and is made with fresh green leaves, vegetables, rice, with meat and without meat. To prepare this Galho they use fermented soya or bamboo. Here I made this khichdi without meat and fermented soya. The process of making this dish is very simple and I made it in a pressure cooker which is done under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • Rice – ½ cup
  • Spinach/Palak – ½ cup
  • Green chilies- 2 or3
  • Chopped tomato – 1
  • Ginger garlic paste – ¼ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water- 2 ½ cups

Instructions

  • Wash the rice and keep aside.
  • Heat a pressure cooker and rice, spinach, green chillies, chopped tomato ginger garlic paste and mix well.
  • Add 2 ½ cups- 3 cups of water along with salt and mix well again.
  • Pressure the rice for 2-3 whistle.
  • Once the pressure is released, open the lid and mash the khichdi with help of the back of a spoon.
  • Transfer the Naga Galho to a serving bowl and enjoy when it is warm with homemade tomato chutney.
